OCTOBER 2020 (VOL.156)
Have you been to Japan? Where did you visit? How did you like it?
I’ve been to Japan 4 times. The first 3 times were for vacation and the 4th time was to live in Japan. During vacation, I’ve been to Tokyo, Saitama, Nara, Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. For my 4th time in Japan, I lived in a city called Yokkaichi for several months where I also traveled to Nagoya, Ise Shrine, and Kanazawa. These places are truly amazing. Not only are the cities beautiful and retro, but the nature that can be found just outside the city is stunning. Actually, as a matter of fact, you can even find beautiful nature even within the cities too, like certain parks or shrines. Japan is such a beautiful country with great people. I found this restaurant’s sign that says my name!!
Where would you like to go on your next visit to Japan?
For my next visit, I would like to take about a 2–week vacation. I plan to spend most of the time in the cities I’ve been to before to meet up with friends, but I would also like to visit Hiroshima on this trip as well, to visit the Atomic Bomb Dome.
What is your favorite Japanese word / phrase?
I often say the word やば (yaba) a lot which can mean “That’s crazy” or “That’s awesome.” The word originally comes from やばい (yabai) but Japanese people tend to drop the い (i) sound when they are in shock or would like to emphasize that emotion or word.
