OCTOBER 2020 (VOL.156)
What would you want to do if you were in Japan (without COVID-19) now?
I would most definitely love to study In Japan! Even if it’s just to study the language a bit better, I would also like to travel around Tokyo! Go shopping, eat all the delicious foods that Japan has to offer.
What is your favorite part of Japanese culture that America doesn’t have?
The politeness that one can experience in Japanese culture is a very big culture shock for me. Here in America, everyone seems to always want to get things done as quickly as possible. As well as being thankful for most things, and having phrases for the gratitude a Japanese person can have.
Any Japanese traditional culture or custom you would like to try or see?
I have always wanted to try to pray at a Shinto Shrine. It seems like it brings anyone who participates, inner peace, and that is something I want to achieve. I also would like to participate in Hanami cherry blossom viewing! The cherry blossoms seem so beautiful!
Where is your favorite place in the US that makes you feel like you’re in Japan?
The Huntington Library has a beautiful Japanese garden. It includes a Japanese house, a Ceremonial tea house, a Bonsai collection, and a Zen court. Truly Amazing!
What do you want to buy in bulk from Japan?
If I had the money, I would buy all my favorite snacks and sweets from Japan! I think they’re delicious and very creative!
